What motorcycle events are on around Dunedin and Otago?

You can find many local motorcycle events on our events page. We try to put as many road and off-road events on here as we are made aware of. This includes motorcycle rallies and trail rides. If you have an event you would like us to list on this page, please let us know. We cover motorcycle events that are mostly in Otago, Dunedin and the South Island. We also pop events up on our Facebook page, so follow us on Facebook

Training Days - MCR host three or four road rider training days at levels race track each year. These are very popular and with limited space available, fill up fast. Be sure to contact us if you’re interested.

Can you help me start motorcycle racing?

We sure can, we can help with all aspects of motorbike racing. From having the right gear to assisting with the bike build as well as helping you through the MNZ licence process.

 

Can I buy motorcycle clothing and accessories 

It is extremely important to ensure your motorcycle gear fits properly. Each manufacturer has their own definitions of what small, medium and large means, the only way to make sure it fits well for certain is to come in store. Getting a helmet that fits correctly is imperative!

Do you sell second-hand motorcycle gear?

Yes, we have a rack of pre-loved motorcycle clothing (this excludes helmets, as you should never buy a second-hand helmet).

What sort of motorbike clothing do you have?

We stock everything you need. Helmets, riding jeans, textile trousers and jackets, leather jackets, gloves, boots, etc. We have both road and off-road gear covered. We also carry a large range of women’s riding gear. 

Do you have scooter helmets?

Yes, MCR stock a large range of both full face and open face scooter helmets.

What can I use as luggage on my motorcycle?

We sell a range of luggage options. We stock Kriega luggage which is 100% waterproof as well as top boxes, Ventura racks and bags. We can source many other options for you too, just pop in and see us.

Why would I buy an electric motorcycle?

With an electric motorbike, you can benefit from free parking and low running costs, as well as a more environmentally friendly travel option. They’re a great option for students at Uni, you just need your car licence, parking is a breeze and they’re cheap to run.

What is the difference between an electric motorcycle or an electric scooter and an electric bike?

With our electric motorcycles, you don’t need to do any pedalling! They have the look of a motorcycle, rather than a small fold-up scooter, and they run on the road.

What gear do I need to wear on my electric commuter bike?

You must by law wear at least a helmet, but we recommend a full kit of gear for protection – Jacket full-length trousers boots and gloves.

What licence do I need to ride an electric scooter or electric motorcycle?

You can ride the CUX electric scooters, TC Electric bikes and TS Electric motorbikes on any car licence or a motorbike licence, as it’s a moped. Come instore to see the range.

Is a moped the same as a scooter?

A motorcycle scooter up to 50cc is the same as a moped. We stock electric and petrol mopeds.

What are the payment options at MCR?

MCR offers several payment options, including cash, Eftpos, Visa and Mastercard 

Can I pay a motorbike off?

MCR offers MTF finance to approved customers.

Can I test ride a bike before I buy it?

Yes. MCR has a range of demo bikes that change regularly so our customers can test ride different models. We often have demo days, but you can test ride a demo bike whenever you like, so long as you hold the correct licence. Just pop in and see us.

I need to book my motorbike into the Workshop for repairs. How much is it going to cost?

No two jobs are the same and while we cannot give exact quotes, we are happy to provide educated estimates based on previous jobs completed and our technicians' vast experience. Just give us a call.

Do you do motorcycle warrants?

Yes; we do warrants Monday to Friday only.

Do you create custom motorbikes?

We love a good customisation. We are happy to work through what you want to achieve to get you your dream bike.

Can you help me with a project bike?

We sure can, we have lots of suppliers both locally and globally where we can source one-off parts and the hard to find ones.

Do you stock genuine Yamaha parts?

We are an authorised Yamaha dealer and can supply genuine parts, as well as sourcing aftermarket parts if you need them.

Do I need to book my bike into the workshop?

Not always, but it pays to give us a call to make sure we have you booked in. This helps us know we have the right parts or there is space in the diary. There are also times where we can fit you in around other jobs.

What does a Dyno do?

In simple terms, it is about getting the maximum possible horsepower and torque from your motorcycle while maintaining your optimal air-to-fuel ratio, making your bike more enjoyable to ride. Talk to us about creating a plan for your bike.

Why get your motorcycle dynotuned?

With a dynotune, you’ll experience better fuel economy, better engine response and better maintenance for your bike. 

What brand of motorbikes do you sell?

We are an Authorised Yamaha, Royal Enfield, Super Soco and Peugeot Motorcycle dealer and sell new and used Yamaha, but we sell all brands of used Road and Off-Road motorcycles as well as electric options. Take a look at what motorbikes we currently have for sale.

Do you take motorbike trade-ins?

We are happy to have a conversation with you around trading your existing motorbike.

What maintenance do I need to do to my motorbike?

It is important to service your bike as per the manufacturer’s instructions (oil change, new filter etc) you also need to make sure you check your chain and sprockets to see if they need adjusting or replaced. Ask us if you’re not sure how to check these. It is also important to check your tyre pressures regularly.

What motorbike oils do you stock?

We stock both the Yamalube range of genuine Yamaha oils as well as the IPONE range of oils and lubricants. We also have Muc-Off motorcycle cleaners in stock.

How often should I change my tyres?

Tyre wear is dependent on a huge number of factors; such as riding style, type of bike, and how you ride, etc. If you are unsure what to look for as a sign to replace your tyres, get in touch and we can give you some guidance on this.
